It's an immersive Architecture Competition & Bootcamp set amidst the inspiring landscape of an arts retreat in Kashmir! You'll delve into the principles of architectural design, create a complete home design rooted in Kashmiri heritage, build a prototype, and compete for exciting opportunities.
You'll be involved in the entire architectural design process, from understanding the nuances of Kashmiri design to conceptualization, creating comprehensive plans, building a prototype, and presenting your vision for a whole home.
The program will delve into the soul of Kashmiri architecture, including: the timber and brick construction of Dhajji Diwari, intricate latticework, distinctive sloping roofs, and the importance of courtyards in community life.
The primary language of instruction will be English.
The prototype should clearly communicate the form, spatial relationships, and key material choices of your home design. It needs to be a physical scale model and a detailed 3D digital model, or a combination of both.
We've invited experienced architects with a deep understanding of Kashmiri architecture, sustainable design principles, and modern construction techniques to guide you through the bootcamp and share their expertise. Their profiles will be shared on our website & social media closer to the date.
No need to worry about bringing your own design software or large tools – everything you'll need for the bootcamp will be provided at the arts retreat! However, please do bring your own laptop or tablet, as you'll be using your personal devices for digital work, note-taking, and accessing resources.
Absolutely! Instructors will provide regular feedback and guidance on your design development and prototype creation throughout the bootcamp. There will also be opportunities for peer review.
