In a collaborative filmmaking project, students will explore Kashmir, film in pairs, and edit footage to produce short films, developing storytelling skills and cultural awareness, culminating in a final presentation.

The week unfolds with daily themes: from getting to know the students, to experiencing Kashmir’s landscapes, traditions, everyday life, architecture, and unique wildlife.

What's this event all about?

It's an exciting fusion of a filmmaking competition and an intensive bootcamp, all hosted at a picturesque arts retreat in Kashmir. You'll learn the ropes of documentary filmmaking, create your own documentary, and compete with fellow aspiring filmmakers.

What does "generate a whole documentary" mean?

Throughout the bootcamp, you'll work in pairs to conceive, shoot, and edit a complete short documentary film, guided by experienced filmmakers.

What is the language of instruction during the bootcamp?

The primary language of instruction will be English.

What should my film sample/documentary concept submission include?

If required, your submission should showcase your storytelling ability, visual sense, and understanding of filmmaking basics. For a concept, outline your documentary idea, potential subjects, and approach. Specific requirements will be detailed in the application guidelines.

Will the documentaries created during the bootcamp be screened?

Absolutely! The trailers produced during the bootcamp will be showcased in a final screening as part of the competition. You can also feel free to use it in your portfolio, CV, and college applications!

Who will be guiding us through the bootcamp?

We've assembled a team of experienced documentary filmmakers, cinematographers, editors, and sound recordists to lead the workshops and mentor you through the filmmaking process. Their profiles will be shared on our website & social media closer to the date.

Do I need to bring my own filmmaking equipment (camera, sound gear, editing software)?

Yes, participants are required to bring their own filmmaking equipment, including cameras, sound recording gear, and laptops with their preferred editing software. This allows you to work with the tools you're most familiar with throughout the bootcamp.

Do I need to bring my own supplies, including garments and fabrics for the bootcamp?

Nope, no need to lug your supplies! Everything you'll need for the bootcamp will be provided for you at the retreat. We've got you covered!

Will we have access to filming locations within Kashmir?

Yes, the retreat's location in Kashmir offers a wealth of potential filming locations.

Will we work individually or in teams to create our documentaries?

You'll be working in pairs to create your documentaries. The pairs will be chosen randomly, and each person will have the opportunity to film for 3 days. This collaborative approach will give you diverse perspectives and hands-on experience in different aspects of the filmmaking process.

Will there be opportunities for feedback and guidance on our documentary projects?

Absolutely! Our instructors will provide regular feedback and mentorship throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of your documentary.
